STL Technologies and ABM join forces to develop interface to integrate Intelligence, Custody and Case management applications

9 April 2010 - Criminal Justice software solutions specialists, ABM and STL Technologies have joined forces to provide an integrated Crime, Intelligence and Defendant Management solution for the UK Police market. The integrated solution will improve the way in which information is handled and help maximise performance by making it easier to manage workloads and share information.

Traditionally these aspects of the policing process have been dealt with as separate functions; that will now be merged seamlessly into one solution. This will ease the burden of managing the entire routine as well as significantly reducing the infrastructure costs. Expected benefits include reducing bureaucracy by eliminating the re-keying of information and duplication of files throughout the entire process of intelligence gathering, detaining suspects, maintaining bail details, case preparation and court appearances.

STL Custody covers all aspects of a person’s detention in accordance with relevant UK statutes, while STL Case tracks all charges, summons and process cases, from preparation of the first court appearance right through to completion. Richard Perkins, Sales and Marketing Director of STL Technologies, adds: “We believe that by partnering with ABM, we will offer the best integrated solution on the market; that supports policing best practice whilst significantly reducing solution and infrastructure costs.”

Part of ABM's Information Management Suite (IMS), IMS Intelligence is a comprehensive solution for the recording, management and sharing of police intelligence. Anton Roe, ABM’s Director of Operations, explains: “The need for UK Policing to increase efficiency through business process efficiency, consolidation of systems and simplification of ICT infrastructure is becoming ever more critical. The integrated solution from ABM and STL will help the police meet this challenge.”

Pano Logic Releases Pano System 3.0, with Windows 7 Support, Deeper VMware View™ Integration and Expanded End User Controls

April 2010

Pano Logic, the leader in zero client desktop virtualization, announced Pano System 3.0, a major product release with support for the Windows 7 operating system and closer integration with VMware View™. Pano System 3.0 also enhances the end user computing experience by providing new user controls over virtual desktops, and further simplifies centralized administration for IT managers. The newest release from Pano Logic meets a growing demand within organizations of all sizes for a true zero client alternative to costly PCs and thin clients, particularly as they plan their migration to the Windows 7 operating system and begin overdue replacements of desktop infrastructures.

Deeper VMware View™ Integration

Closer integration with VMware View Manager in Pano System 3.0 will extend Pano Logic’s zero client value propositions by making it even easier to manage a heterogeneous desktop environment. IT administrators can now use a single seamless and comprehensive console through VMware View for managing small to large-scale virtual desktop deployments or infrastructures comprising a mix of both Pano Logic virtual desktops and PCs or thin clients. Pano Logic has grown rapidly, with sales tripling in 2009, particularly in mid-sized organizations and departmental deployments within large organizations.

“Pano Logic is dedicated to ensuring our customers have the tools and resources they need to maximize their investments in both VMware and Pano Logic solutions. Extending our integration with VMware View™ provides that assurance,” said John Kish , CEO of Pano Logic. “Innovative organizations are seizing upon our zero client virtual desktop solution to free them from the high cost and complexity of managing PCs and troublesome thin clients. We continue to move our technology forward to meet the needs of our customers and keep pace with industry developments, such as the release of the Windows 7 operating system. As businesses continue their migration to zero clients, we will continue to provide them the platform for their needs.”

Pano Logic solves major challenges inherent in the current PC-based, client-server computing model, while providing end users with the same, familiar PC-like Windows experience. Its technology radically reduces computing total cost of ownership by as much as 80 percent by completely eliminating endpoint device management, support and obsolescence. Instead, end users connect to their virtual machine with a zero client that contains no processor, no operating system, no memory, no drivers, no software and no moving parts. This represents a major shift from highly complex and costly PC and thin client computing solutions.

Windows 7 Migration Path Simplified

With Pano System 3.0, companies migrating onto the new Windows 7 operating system now have the option of deploying the zero client hardware and software platform that was purpose-built for desktop virtualization. The Pano Logic platform now supports Windows 7 Enterprise, Professional and Ultimate editions with no change in price. To ease the transition for end users, the Pano System 3.0 enables individuals to maintain both a Windows 7 and an XP desktop.

“Beta 3.0 builds on all the magic of 2.8, by adding Windows 7 support along with other great features such as multiple desktops per user, management server load balancing, and maintenance mode for DVMs,” said Corky Collins , Chief Technology Officer, STL Technologies “The fact that Pano Logic pours so much into R&D and keeps adding new, and free, features to its platform will, we think, keep them well ahead of the competition in the zero client endpoint market.”

Windows 7 support comes as analysts are predicting expanded adoption of virtual desktop deployments to ease the transition to Windows 7 and realize dramatic cost savings and efficiency gains. “The release of Windows 7 is creating an ideal launch pad for desktop virtualization. With Windows XP getting long in the tooth and most companies choosing to skip Vista altogether, Windows 7 is poised for success. Any company considering upgrading to Windows 7 is an ideal candidate for desktop virtualization because desktop virtualization can help further accelerate Windows 7 adoption, deliver incompatible applications, and turn what would be two projects into one,” stated Mark Bowker, Senior Analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group, in the February 1, 2010 research brief, “2010 Desktop Virtualization Trends.”

Further, “Gartner believes that most enterprises must openly evaluate and implement virtualization at the server and desktop level to take advantage of cost-cutting opportunities and to remain competitive,” stated the research firm in a November 2009 report, “Market Trends: x86 Virtualization Market Driven by Consolidation, Promise of Cost Reduction, and Management Advantages.”

End Users Gain Control, IT Administrators Eliminate Management

Pano System 3.0 incorporates end-user functionality that users enjoyed with individual PCs, as well as functionality required but not captured by PCs. End users have the power to reboot their virtual machines as well as lock their desktop and access a new one in the event of a problem. This enables users to continue working and preserves the original for IT to examine and diagnose. Pano System 3.0 also enables users to maintain multiple virtual machines. End users have the option to transition between various virtual machines assigned to them by simply clicking on the environment of their choice, further freeing IT from desktop support demands.

Pano Logic and STL Technologies Unveil Zero Client Architecture at BETT 2010

January 2010

Radically Innovative Desktop Virtualisation Technology Available on Stand W62
Pano Logic , the leader in zero client desktop virtualisation , will be appearing at the BETT show alongside Premier Partner STL Technologies offering academic institutions an easy to use PC or thin client replacement. By radically centralising all computing power to the virtualised server, the Pano System eliminates the burden of managing the endpoint, while simultaneously removing endpoint security breaches, reducing energy consumption, and dramatically reducing academic institutions’ overall total cost of ownership. Pano Logic’s zero client devices reduce energy consumption by 97% over PCs, and are already providing dramatic energy savings in classrooms throughout North American universities.

The Pano zero client devices are purpose built for virtualisation and provide students and faculty with a full and dynamic user experience, while eliminating IT staff time spent managing complex thin client environments. Pano Logic truly delivers on the promise of VDI and the future of desktop computing. The solution is radical, simple and complete.

When faced with budget cuts and over-stretched IT staff, Pano Logic works with educational institutions’ existing virtual infrastructure to provide desktop virtualisation technologies that improve IT productivity and reduce provisioning delays and energy costs. Other benefits of the system include improved desktop uptime, savings on the cost of buying expensive software and replacing PCs, and a more efficient student and faculty experience.

The University of Maryland deployed Pano Logic to streamline the management of their lab environments. Describing the benefits of Pano to the education sector, Pano Logic user Jeff Cunningham, director of information systems, Dept. of Agricultural and Resource Economics (AREC), University of Maryland, says: "The simplicity of the Pano System is extremely appealing to me I provisioned my virtual desktops and started using our new Panos within a couple of hours. I've found Pano to be a great time saver, especially because it's a lot easier to drop in a single server to benefit forty people than going out and buying forty traditional PCs."

Richard Perkins, sales and marketing director of STL Technologies says: “We are seeing considerable demand and interest for virtual desktop technologies from organisations that understand the cost-savings to be made. The interest from our customer comes from the fact that the Pano System is the easiest to use and the most energy efficient desktop virtualisation system on the market today. We look forward to unveiling the technology at BETT.”

Chris Hammans, managing director, EMEA of Pano Logic says: “Over the past 12 months, the education sector in North America has been installing Pano Logic systems enthusiastically. Many schools, universities and colleges are now enjoying the significant returns on investment and the easy to manage, more efficient IT provided by the Pano System. Pano Logic launched in the UK last October and we look forward to bringing the same benefits to the UK alongside our public sector specialist partner STL Technologies.”

BETT, the world’s largest educational technology event takes place from 13th to 16th January 2010 at Olympia in London, UK. Pano Logic will be appearing on the STL Technologies stand W62.
